How does sharing the love for being out on the mountain bring a relationship so close together? Well for one member of the Christy Sports family there was no other option. Our Digital Marketing Manager, Mike and his wife Torrey, found true love through skiing. Both of them grew up ski racing Mike being a local kid to Winter Park he grew up skiing on the competition center team. Torrey grew up ski racing in Lake Tahoe California.

Mike decided to go to school in-state and Torrey wanted to change things up and go to school at the University of Colorado!  They both found a friend group in the ski racing community through present and new friends on the CU D1 and Club team. They met through mutual friends and had their very first ski date on their 21st birthday; they have the exact same birthday. After the first time skiing together Mike’s crush began to grow. He realized that not only was Torrey a great human but she could also rip on skis. While talking with Mike about his and Torrey’s relationship I asked if skiing was a big part of their relationship he responded with “100% because neither of us were going to be with someone that we couldn’t ski with, we still talk about that.”

Mike and Torrey being the power ski couple they are have skied all over the country and the world together. Just to name a few of the great places they have gotten to enjoy together: Chamonix, Verbier, St. Anton, Snowbird/Alta, Jackson Hole, Kirkwood, Squaw, Sierra at Tahoe, and of course Winter Park. The couple now live in Denver but you will find them up in the mountains together every chance they have to escape. They both enjoy skiing on the weekends and of course doing all of this together. Mike also said “We want to have kids and teach them the same lifestyle and appreciation for the mountains. Those things can be easy to take for granted sometimes and it takes being away from it to truly understand it. The mountains shaped me into who I am today and I am very grateful for that.”

These two love the snow so much that Mike planned to propose to her on a beautiful fall day in Summit County. Mike had everything planned out to hike to the top of Torrey’s peak (which is what Torrey is named after) and out of nowhere, a beautiful fall blizzard caught the two by surprise. They did not make it to the top but Mike had a backup plan so that he could still pop the question and of course she said yes!

Nine years later these two are still so devoted to spending time on the mountain together. The love of skiing and being outside is what created their beautiful love story. So if you are a skier or snowboarder and you find someone that loves to be on the slopes as much as you do, then go on a date or nine years’ worth of dates so that you can have a love story as cute as Mike and Torrey’s. We want to thank them for sharing their story! Get out and find the love of your life on the mountain.
