TUNING & REPAIRS KNOWLEDGE BASE

If you maintain your gear regularly, it will perform better and last longer.

How many times should I get my skis tuned?

Skis and snowboards should be tuned every 5-6 times out on the mountains for the best performance and safety. Early season or manmade snow will pull the wax off your equipment and you may need to get your equipment waxed more frequently.

How do I know that I need my equipment tuned?

If your skis/snowboard start to feel slow, or if you have a hard time holding your turns, you’re probably due for a tune.

Close

What types of damages are urgent to repair?

If you have any deep cuts in your equipment especially if the core of the ski or snowboard is showing. If the damage is left untreated water and snow will start to rot the core of the ski from the inside. If you’ve got a break or significant damage to your edges, your skis or snowboard’s ability to ride will be severely impacted and potentially dangerous.

How do I know if my edges are dull?

Test 3-5 spots up and down the both the inside and outside edges by running the top of your fingernail over the edge. If you feel a little bite to your nail as you drag it across the edge – the edge is sharp. If your fingernail ever feels like it slides across the edge smoothly, as if the edge were rounded and not sharp, this may be indication that the edge might not be sharp enough to ski or board on with confidence.
